Description of file types

A .JPG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) image, does not contain any transparency data, and is easily compressed. Almost all applications handle this file type, and is suitable for most applications.

A .PNG (Portable Network Graphic) image contains transparency data, and is ideal for use on websites or other applications where the image must be overlayed or the transparency utilised however, a .PNG image is not handled by all software packages.

A .WMF (Windows Metafile) image is a vector image, meaning it will not pixelate when re-scaled. WMF files are implemented almost exclusively in the Microsoft Office software packages and are used in conjunction with the clipart manager.

An .EPS (Electronic Postscript) image is a vector image, and is recognised by any vector image reading software. Like any vector image, it is infinitely rescalable and will not pixelate.
